As the good people of Dagbon and a pensive nation anxiously awaits the next move by the committee of Eminent Chiefs handling the traditional aspect of the Dagbon dispute, the Spiritual Leader and founder of the Salawatia Muslim Mission of Ghana, Sheihu Husain Rashid Salwat, has advised and called on the government to internalise the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute by allowing the people to solve the problem in their own way.

According to him, the committee chaired by the Asantehene, Otumfou Osei Tutu II, Nayiri and Yegbon Wura, has so far played a pivotal role in restoring peace to the long standing turmoil in Dagbon but however noted that it would do Dagbon a lot of good if the people are given the opportunity to solve the problem in a family way.

Sheihu Imam Rashid maintained that “Peace can only revisit Dagbon if the problem is solved. This can be achieved by allowing people of Dagbon do it themselves” and said “The people of Dagbon are capable of solving the problem and it is time the government and international bodies interested in the matter allowed them do so.”

In a statement he signed and copied to the media, Sheihu Imam Rashid Salwat pointed out that the Dagbon problem was supposed and needed to be solved at ‘home’ “but the refusal and meddling of some politicians and the acceptance of the people of Dagbon to settle the problem outside the Dagbon jurisdiction has brought a lot of trouble on them”.

He further commended the Committee of Eminent chiefs for their tremendous contribution towards rebuilding peace in Dagbon.

He lauded that the committee has contributed to the current stable atmosphere in the area and underscored the need for the committee to understand his appeal.

Sheihu Salwat cited that time has come for the government and stakeholders to take the personal initiative in bringing a halt to the tragic conflict in Dagbon.

He said there was the need to rest the committee of eminent chiefs and allow the people of Dagbon to solve their problem amicably.

He suggested that for the sake of peace and quick solution to the long standing fragile peace in Dagbon, the Ghanaian public, and Dagombas in particular, however deserved every bit of factual and historical information on the dispute. This, he said would go a very long way to solve the problem.

Sheihu Imam Rashid hoped that sooner or later, all the people of Dagbon will have to discover a way to live together in peace, and thereby transform this pending cosmic elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood.

He said it was the view of some people, particularly Dagombas that are so tragically bound to the starless midnight of disunity and conflict that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.

The Salawatia sacred leader revealed that Dagbon as a glorious Ancient Kingdom “has a lot of hidden and sacred secrets which should not be made known to non Dagombas but the dispute has made it available to all manners of people, because the matter has gone to court and on the other hand handled by some government”.

He said “it is because of this sacred revelation to all manners of people that their ancestors are angry and killing them among others”.

It will be recalled that in one GO’s editions last week Sheihu Husain Rashid Salwat said the gods of the lands of Dagbon are angry and so were killing their chiefs and opinion leaders.

He said since the death of the late King, the region has registered a lot of conflicts and in view of the inability of the people to handle it in the amicably, “their ancestors are restless and worried in their graves, turning and this has resulted in the challenges we record today.”
