Praise be to Allah Who has blessed us with Islam. We pray that His Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his household.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, assalamu alaikum. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you all on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha celebration. I wish you a happy Eid and Allah’s continued blessings.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam.

If the world needs upright people at any given time in its history and the history of Islam then it is surely this time. There are some Muslims, who associate themselves with all kinds of vices known to man. The situation in which we find ourselves as Muslims these days is so terrible.

For instance, my dear brothers and sisters, some Muslims see fraud as a normal practice to the extent that they defraud their fellow Muslims who intend performing Hajj, a pillar in Islam. In this circumstance, how can we live up to Allah’s description of Muslims in the Quran as the best people? Allah says, “You Muslims are the best of Peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah”. Quran 3:110. Unfortunately, these virtues are lacking in the majority of Muslims today.

Whereas, Islam aims at transforming an ordinary human being into an efficient, highly responsible and highly developed spiritual being, majority of Muslims amuse themselves with evil doing.

One day the Holy Prophet asked Harith, one of his companions who had developed spiritually in the presence of other companions. “O’ Harith what are your achievements today?” Harith replied. “I am now a true believer, O Prophet of Allah.” The Prophet asked; “What is the proof of your claim?” Harith replied. “My proof is that I dedicated my days in the service of Allah and spent my nights in prayer and as a result I could see the throne of Allah manifested in front of me. I could see people in Paradise paying visits to each other. I could also see people in hell tormented.” The Prophet then remarked; “O’ Harith, you have realized the spiritual height, therefore hold fast to that”.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, that is what is termed, “Tarbiyat ul-Islamiya” meaning Islamic Spiritual Training. The “Tarbiya” is surely the essence of Tariqah.

Truth is a high prerequisite for the achievement of spiritual height in Islam. Allah says in the Quran 9:119; “O you who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are true in word and deed. Tolerance, self-respect and respect to others are also prerequisites for spiritual development. Peaceful co-existence with others irrespective of their ethnic, political, tribal and religious affiliations is another important factor to Islamic spiritual development. Allah says in the Quran 8:46. “And obey Allah and His Messenger; and fall not into disputes and confrontations, lest your glory and power depart you; and be patient always and cultivate perseverance: for Allah is with those who are patient.”

To crown it all, my dear brothers and sisters in Islam, Allah says in the Holy Quran 3:133-138. “Persevere in the race for seeking forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Paradise the width which is the same as the vastness of the heavens and the earth, awaiting the righteous. They are the ones who spend their wealth to the well-being of others. They restrain anger, and pardon others, for Allah loves those who do good deeds. They are the ones who when they do evil or wrong themselves remember Allah and ask for forgiveness for their sins; and it is only Allah Who forgives. They are the ones who do not persist in doing evil knowingly. Their reward is forgiveness and an eternal dwelling in Paradise with rivers flowing underneath, an excellent reward for those who strive in the course of Allah”.

I pray for all Muslims. I pray for the prosperity of the people of the world. I pray for peace to prevail in the world. I pray for Ghana and all the people of Ghana. May Allah bless you all. I wish you a happy Eid ul-Adha and Allah’s continued blessings celebration.
